The easiest way to get to the channel is to use the SpaceEmpires.net #SpaceEmpires IRC chat module. Simply go to the SE.net Portal and click on SE IRC Chat from the modules menu. Alternatively, you can use the link on the right hand side of this page, or the link in the SE.net navigation menu. This will open a Java applet which will connect you to the channel. If you have an account on the SE.net Portal, your account name will be used as your IRC nickname. Otherwise, a random name will be assigned. You can change your nickname on IRC by typing the following command: "/nick newname".

mIRC

To connect in mIRC, click on the File Menu and select Options (this window opens by default when you first open the program). Go to the Connect section in the Category menu on the left. Where it says IRC Network on the right, there is a drop box menu listing servers. Select Freenode here. Then, in the drop box menu right below it, select an appropriate Freenode server. If you do not see any Freenode servers, you will have to add one manually. Click on the Add button. In the Description box, type in Freenode. In the IRC server box, type in irc.freenode.net. In the Group box, type in Freenode. Click on the Add button. Now, you will have Freenode in the list of servers mentioned previously. Enter the relevant information in the Full Name, Nickname, and Alternate fields (alternate will be used if someone on Freenode is already using the Nickname you had picked). Next, select the Perform option in the Category menu. Make sure "Enable Perform on Connect" is selected. Then, in the Network drop down menu, select Freenode. In the text field below, type in this line:

/join #SpaceEmpires

Next, go back to the Connect category in the left hand menu. Click the "Connect to IRC" button. This should get you connected to Freenode.

Trillian

To connect in Trillian, locate the IRC icon in the main Buddy List window. Click on it and select Connection Manager. On the left, you will see a listing of various servers. Select Freenode, then select an appropriate server under Freenode. Next, enter all of the relevant informaton in the Personal Information section on the right in the Full Name, Nickname, and Alternate fields (alternate will be used if someone on Freenode is already using the Nickname you had picked). Click the Save Information button. Next, select the Perform Buffer tab. In it, enter this line:

/join #SpaceEmpires

Then, click on the "Set nick on all servers in group" button. You will not recieve any feedback after pressing this button, but that is ok. Finally, hit the Connect button. This should get you connected to Freenode.
